Milk’s makeup launch is so hip that even trying to categorize it as anything seems automatically unhip. It’s more of a movement—a presentation of a ton of unique SKUs that pretty much have zero resemblance to anything else on the market (eye marker and lash stain, anyone?). It’s made to be multiuse and effortless but still somewhat bold—if you want it to be. The bottom line: There’s no rules with this range.
Of course, that’s pretty much what you would expect from Milk, the always before-the-trend creative machine out of LA and NY that has its pulse on everything fashion-, music-, photography-, art- and film-related. I know the brand from doing photo shoots at the studios; to put it mildly, I am barely hip enough to buy a cup of coffee there, much less test out its latest big launch.

But that’s the thing about the line—it really is for everyone. One of the standouts, the Sunshine Oil ($38), is amazingly versatile and effective. It comes in an easy-to-use portable tube and the natural oil–packed formula (the lineup includes grapeseed, avocado, grapefruit peel, tangerine peel, mandarin orange peel, and lemon peel) dispenses from a never-messy glass rollerball. I started using it to hydrate my legs and hands and slowly trusted it enough to apply it to my face (it sort of just revives your skin when you dab it on at the end of the day, especially if you have blush/bronzer on your cheeks from that morning). It’s amazing and so is the smell, a sort of bright-fresh scent that’s not overpowering or obvious. Best of all, 100 percent of the profits go to Dayna’s Fund, a fund set up to help Milk Girl Dayna in her battle against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
