Stop Everything: There's An Actual Healthy Donut Out There

After a grueling workout, the first thing you’d think to grab to refuel and calm and control your hunger would be a fresh-pressed juice or a protein shake. But, the pronut may be changing that.

Made from whole-food ingredients and boasting around 12 grams of protein, 4.5 grams of carbs and just 85 calories, baked pronuts taste like traditional cake donuts minus the fat. They’re also rich in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids and are often gluten-free. Baked rather that deep fried in oil (like a traditional donut is), these treats satisfy your sweet tooth while giving your body the nutrients it needs.

But, you don’t need to work out to enjoy a pronut. Because they are a healthier food option, they’re safe to reach for when you’re craving something sweet but don’t want to consume empty calories or have a sugar crash.

“They’re a lighter version, so you can enjoy them without the guilt,” says Danielle DuBoise, cofounder of Sakara Life, an organic meal program. Whitney Tingle, cofounder of Sakara Life, says the sweetness comes from vanilla extract, maple syrup and acai. “The glaze is a mix of homemade protein powder, nut butter and confectioners sugar. It’s the perfect way to have your cake and eat it too.”
